About
Edelmira is named after my grandmother, the woman who first taught me how to bead. Through beading, I found a way to stay connected to the hands and traditions that came before me. My journey with beading continued during my undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley, where I participated in the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) beading and arts gatherings. These spaces reminded me that handmade art is not simply about creating something beautiful, but it can also create community, preserve stories, and connect us to one another.
Every piece I create is thoughtfully and patiently beaded by hand. I work primarily with Japanese seed beads, including Miyuki beads, whose incredible range of colors, finishes, and consistency allows me to bring intricate designs to life. Edelmira is my way of honoring where my joy of beading began. Each piece carries a little bit of the story: my grandmother who taught me, the communities that encouraged my creativity, and the countless hours spent placing each tiny bead by hand.
